10 popular mother-daughter jodis in Bollywood

The acclaimed director Aparna Sen is the winner of several National Film Awards. Before donning the hat of a director, she was a Bengali actress and had worked with legends like Satyajit Ray. Like mother, daughter Konkona too is a critically acclaimed actress. Aparna directed Konkona in several collaborations including 'Mr And Mrs Iyer' and '15 Park Avenue'.

After delivering hits like 'Bobby' and 'Saagar', Dimple Kapadia managed to transform her bold image with films like 'Krantiveer', 'Gardish' and 'Rudali'. Her daughters, Twinkle and Rinke Khanna, have also tried their luck in Bollywood. While Rinke disappeared from limelight after appearing in a handful of films, the 'Barsaat' actress Twinkle Khanna moved to production, interior designing and writing after marrying Akshay Kumar.

This mother-daughter duo not only started the trend of 'K' serials, but also revamped the television scene in India with their production company Balaji Telefilms. They gave us TV serials like 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi', 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii', 'Kasautii Zindagii Kay', 'Pavitra Rishta' and 'Bade Acche Lagte Hain', among several others. They have also ventured into Bollywood with the company Balaji Motion Pictures which has films like 'The Dirty Picture', 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai', 'Shootout at Lokhandwala', 'Ragini MMS' and 'Kyaa Kool Hai Hum' to its credit.

Bollywood's 'Dreamgirl' Hema Malini has tasted tremendous success in her film career, while her daughter Esha failed to make a mark despite being born with a silver spoon. Hema Malini made a futile attempt to lift Esha Deol's career by directing her in 'Tell Me O Kkhuda'. When the filmi tide worked against her, Esha turned to television and became a judge for the adventure-reality show 'Roadies X2'.

Lillete Dubey is an acclaimed theatre and Bollywood actress with films like 'Monsoon Wedding', 'Baghban' and 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' to her credit. She also starred in the British film 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' featuring Maggie Smith, Judi Dench and Bill Nighy. Her daughter Ira Dubey has worked in films like 'Aisha' and 'Dilliwaali Zaalim Girlfriend'.

Sarika achieved critical success after her separation with Kamal Haasan by winning the National Film Award for Best Costume Design for 'Hey Ram', and the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in 'Parzania'. Her daughter Shruti is not only an actress, but also has singing credits to her name. Akshara Haasan, who shares her mother Sarika's striking eyes, made her Bollywood debut with R Balki's 'Shamitabh' featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush.

Moon Moon Sen, the daughter of the legendary actress Suchitra Sen, has worked in Bollywood and Bengali films. She starred in the suspense-thriller '100 Days' with Madhuri Dixit. Moon Moon's daughters, Raima and Riya, followed in her footsteps to enter filmdom. While Riya is compared to her mother for sharing a bold on-screen persona, Raima is likened to her grandmother Suchitra for versatile acting prowess.

Having won Padma Bhushan, two National Film Awards and two Filmfare Awards, among other honours, Sharmila Tagore is one of the most respected personalities in the film fraternity. She worked with her daughter, Soha Ali Khan , who is known for films like 'Rang De Basanti', '99' and 'Tum Mile', in Sangeeta Datta's 'Life Goes On' in 2009.

Babita, who married Randhir Kapoor, is best known for films like 'Haseena Maan Jayegi', 'Farz' and 'Kismet' in her short career that included 19 movies. While Karisma was one of the most sought after actresses in the 90s, her sister Kareena is ruling Bollywood now.

While Tanuja is most remembered for her roles in 'Jewel Thief' and 'Haathi Mere Saathi', Kajol continues to rule the roost in Bollywood. This mother-daughter duo was seen in Kajol's debut film 'Bekhudi'. They last appeared together in 'Toonpur Ka Superhero'. Tanuja's younger daughter Tanishaa has had a shot at acting too with films like 'Popcorn Khao! Mast Ho Jao' and 'Neal N Nikki' to her credit. Tanishaa has also launched her production house T Mukerji Media.

5 LESS EDUCATED BOLLYWOOD ACTRESSES

One of the first to break the Kapoor stereotype, Karisma not only entered showbiz but also made it big there. Her passion and scintillating looks made her one of the most prominent stars of the 90s. However, very few of us are aware of the price she paid for this. Karisma allegedly dropped out of school soon after she entered sixth standard to pursue acting. Her first film was ‘Prem Qaidi’ when she was just sixteen.

One of the most sought after actresses of the decade, Priyanka never finished her graduation. The beauty queen has done her schooling from a number of places like USA and India. She wanted to be a criminal psychologist and joined Jai Hind college in Mumbai. But modelling and beauty assignments came her way too soon.

One of the most beautiful faces in the world, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a college dropout too. Aishwarya had always been an average student. She went to Jai Hind college for a year but later switched to some other college to pursue architecture. Soon she was offered many high end modelling assignments and film offers. Thus she left her studies mid way to join the Bollywood bandwagon.

Unlike the junior Nawab of Pataudi, Kareena has never been a bright student. From a very tender age, glamour and glitz impressed her more than anything else. One of the highest paid actresses of the decade, Kareena made her film debut at the age of 20. After studying commerce for two years at Mithibai College, Kareena later developed an interest towards law. She then enrolled at the Government Law College, but left it after the first year to join Bollywood.

While Deepika played a college girl in one of the highest grossers of the year, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, very few know that Deepika did not complete her graduation in real life. For Deepika, Bollywood had always been her first calling. Deepika had joined Mount Carmel in Bangalore but never completed her studies there. She also enrolled for a short term course in IGNOU for further studies but could never complete it. Deepika, who has been tagged as the highest grosser of Bollywood, definitely paid a huge price for reaching.
